8 legitimate survey sites - make money on your lunch break

A few years ago, I was a regular on the free online survey websites, filling in surveys in spare moments of the day, such as during my lunch break or on the morning/evening commute.

Now I didn’t earn millions doing this [spoiler, it’s not going to let you retire], but I did bring in some extra money here and there, and sometimes between £50 and £75 a month.

Online survey sites are run by market research companies who want to find out your opinions, on things such as news events or products. Your opinion on things can shape a business strategy or inform a report, so they are happy to pay for your time.

Sign-up to many sites

I signed up to as many survey sites as I could (you should too) and used spare moments throughout the day to fill in the surveys.

Some survey sites only send out a few invitations a month, so by signing up to more you’ll have more surveys to earn from. You can always unsubscribe from the ones you don’t like once you’ve tried them out.

Create a new email address

I would suggest creating a new email address if you can. That way your main inbox isn’t getting clogged up with daily survey emails, and you can log on once or twice a day and see what’s come in when you’re ready.

Most of the survey companies need you to double opt-in too, so keep an eye on your inbox.

Be honest

Whilst this is a bit of fun and a great way to earn some extra pounds, your views and opinions are being given to and used by businesses that rely on results being accurate. It’s what they’re paying the research company and you for, so please be honest when you sign up and be honest in your replies.

Look out for scams

There are some scams out there too, so be careful. The usual common-sense rules apply – if they want money from you or they promise the world (full time wage for 2 hours work anyone?!) then steer clear.

Here are 8 of the best legitimate survey sites to try today:

Swagbucks, i-Say (UK), i-Say (US), YouGov, Prolific Academic, Lifepoints, Branded Surveys, Pinecone Research (UK), Pinecone Research (US), Pinecone Research (CA), Inbox Pounds or Inbox Dollars
